The inaugural Hammer Series will take place at Sportzone Limburg, in the Netherlands, from June 1-4 and will be contested by 16 WorldTour and Pro Continental teams over three races in three days.
The race will open on the rolling hills nearby Vaals with the Hammer Climb on Friday, before teams return to Sittard-Geleen and Sportzone Limburg to go all out on the city’s blisteringly fast roads for the Hammer Sprint on Saturday.
Sunday’s Hammer Chase will be decided on the roads of Sittard-Geleen too, with the winners proving themselves to be, beyond doubt, the world’s best team.
At Hammer Series it’s not about the rider; it’s all about the team. The Hammer Sportzone Limburg will invite 16 of the world’s top professional teams to pick up the gauntlet and hammer it out.
The 12 UCI WorldTour teams are: Team Bahrain Merida, BMC Racing Team, Cannondale-Drapac Pro Cycling Team, Lotto Soudal, Movistar Team, ORICA-SCOTT, Quick-Step Floors Pro Cycling, Team Lotto NL-Jumbo, Team Sky, Team Sunweb, Trek-Segafredo and UAE Team Emirates.
The rolling hills of Vaals are the perfect location for Friday’s 7km Hammer Climb. The teams will ride a 7km circuit 11 times. The circuit contains two climbs that together make up 3.1km of the circuit’s distance.
Vaals is located where the borders of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany meet and is the highest points of the Netherlands. The incredible backdrop this offers will make for an unforgettable opening to the race weekend.
Saturday’s Hammer Sprint will take place in the city of Sittard-Geleen, starting and finishing at Sportzone Limburg. The teams will do battle over eight laps of a flat and fast 12.4km circuit surrounded by beautiful landscapes. The fans will watch eagerly from the stands to see who wins the points, and the atmosphere is sure to be electric.
The Hammer Chase takes place over three laps of an extended version of the course used for the Hammer Sprint, this time measuring 14.9km in length. It is a team time trial in which the teams will try to chase each other down, with the first over the finish line being crowned event champions. The starting positions of the teams will be determined by the leaderboard after the first two days.
